Velvet Flame Photography is a space for self-expression, transformation, and unapologetic magic. Whether you’re stepping in front of the lens for boudoir, cosplay, or dreamy fantasy portraits, my mission is to help you see yourself as the radiant, weird, powerful being you are.

My name is Lauren. I'm a plus-size, tattoo-covered, queer artist based in Kansas City (and sometimes everywhere, thanks to my con-traveling adventures!). I’ve spent over a decade capturing humans in all their forms, and one thing has always stayed true: my camera is my way of helping people come home to themselves.

I don’t just pose you and snap a few shots. I create a vibe, a story, a world around you one where your body is celebrated, your weirdness is welcome, and your vision is brought to life with intention and joy. My work is rooted in hands-on, hype-you-up direction and cinematic flair, with just the right blend of softness, sparkle, and edge.

I built Velvet Flame for people like me: the artists, misfits, gender explorers, quiet rebels, and big feelers. You’re safe here. You’re seen here. And you’re going to look absolutely f*cking amazing.

Q : What makes you different?
A : Velvet Flame Photography is an escape. It’s a space where softness meets intensity, where fantasy and truth coexist, and where people of all bodies, identities, and stories can feel radiant, powerful, and worthy of being seen.
Q : Why Velvet Flame?
A : Velvet for softness, luxury and the lushness in my work. Flame for transformation, sensuality and warmth, what every session with me feels like. Photo because this is portraiture that means something. This name is more than a rebrand, it's a spell and you're invited to join me on this adventure.

Q : Why is this exciting?
A : I've been operating under the All Things Lauren Studios umbrella for the past 5 years and have photographed so many incredible creatives and cosplayers all over the country. I've just decided to let my photography soar because I believe it's strong enough to stand on its own, complete with its own name, its own brand and of course keeping the same inclusive, creative, chaotic vision. My passion for photography and obsession with cosplay and all things make believe has resulted in some beautiful, fantasy style sessions, and it's so rewarding.

Q : What photo services do you offer?
A : I will still be offering all the same wonderful photography services I've been offering - from newborns to weddings to fall or holiday themed photos to boudoir to pets to real estate to products - I'm always accepting requests! I'm just focusing on boudoir, cosplay and fantasy specifically!

Q : What does the future look like for Velvet Flame Photography?
A : My primary goal is to slow down. I've been so GO GO GO and it's taking a toll on me creatively, mentally and physically. I want to continue to capture genuine, vulnerable, raw moments and provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for every person who wants to create with me. Not much is changing, I'm just traveling to conventions a little less so I have energy to give my creative photography a bigger space to grow into. I am so passionate about cosplay and boudoir, and all things ethereal. So I want to put all my energy towards that and see where the wind takes me.
